Day Three: Toulouse

Bread and circuses. I walked into Place St. Georges from a small pedestrian road leading out of the antiquities quarter. Tomorrow I am leaving the Clocher de Rodez and moving to this quarter-- to the Croix Baragnon. The plazas are quite serene and beautiful. That's a bakery in the background as you might have guessed from the caption. Well, not to say that the French are being mollified by their rulers or anything, but they sure don't lack for indulgences. I don't know if it is a southern thing but eating times are fairly precise. Lunch is available between 1pm and 2pm-- with some leeway at either end-- at most restaurants, and most shops are closed between 12:30 and 2. Between 5 and 6 people leave work and head to the bars and cafes for another coffee or aperatif before dinner. Things quiet down pretty quickly and by 10 or 11pm most bars and cafes are closed. There are a few late night bars and night clubs.

PS. It may be a while before I can find a new wi-fi connection-- I 'm pretty sure the new hotel doesn't have it. A la prochaine.
