Fete des Rois. Or the Epiphany, or the Twelfth day of christmas. In Toulouse, as in most of the Europe they eat a special cake, the gallette des Rois, which contains a bean, or more than likely a little porcelain figure. Lucky you, if you get it-- King or Queen for a day. There were lineups all day at the Bonbonneries and Pastisseries. I guess it's a little bit of a party too; at 5am Sunday morning some rowdy fellows were singing quite loudly while walking, ok stumbling, down my street. Something about "ma petite souris." Better than twelve drummers drumming I guess.
Photo taken by friendly server at the Et si c'etait vrai... That's a bottle of water by the way. Wine is relatively inexpensive as you might guess, but beer is crazy expensive. Prices start at 4 canadian dollars a glass (25cL) or $7.50 a pint-- ouch.

Hey Hans, I've caught up on you blog now -- your readership is swelling. Don't you love those European prices. I figure that a euro here goes abot as far as a dollar in Canada (and that applies to Spain as well now).
And? What about the bean? Did you get it? Have you been the bean king?
Dear Margaret: Happy Birthday! I'm unsure whether you will receive this message but am sending it any way with hopes your adventure is going well. There are likely not to be too many times in your life you will be celebrating your birthday in France! Love, Sue
